As consumers, we are inundated with advertisements, recommendations and claims making it difficult and confusing to know what’s right when it comes to taking vitamins. Based on our own family experiences we believed there had to be a better way. So three years ago we set out to simplify the process. We did our homework, toured the industry and took a closer look at what goes into vitamins. What we discovered surprised us and will likely surprise you, too. Ultimately, we discovered our hunch was right. There is a better way.
We discovered we could create a system that is simple to use, based on quality ingredients, easy on the body and supports healthy habits. We think you will enjoy the benefits of this system as much as our customers do. If you’re still not convinced, see what a recent clinical study of Tespo produced, the results even surprised us.
It’s pretty simple. Liquid is easier to swallow and easier for the body to digest than pressed/formed pills. The problem is that quality liquid vitamins tend to be expensive, taste bad and have a poor shelf life, which is why they usually require refrigeration. Most people don’t even know liquid supplements exist. The industry does not promote liquid vitamins because they are more expensive to make, ship and merchandise compared to pills. Yet, pills and tablets are substandard delivery methods as the nutrients in them are not easily absorbed in the human body. The industry doesn’t want the consumer to know that consumers are only absorbing 15% to 20% of the active ingredients in vitamin pills. This means a $.25 per serving is really the equivalent to $1.25. Our tenet—we are providing consumers with all of the benefits of liquid vitamins without sending you liquid, which means without the cost. We provide high-quality supplements and you provide the water. Pretty simple.
Pills and tablets contain a surprising amount of fillers. They are necessary for pills to keep their form and to keep the machines that make the pills from gumming up. Fillers come in many varieties and they serve multiple purposes. But you might be surprised to learn that as much as 50% of a pill is comprised of fillers. As a general rule of thumb—the lower the price of a supplement or the larger the pill size are good indications that more fillers are being used. Fillers are also known to cause physical reactions, which is why approximately 5 to 10% of the population get upset stomachs when taking pills. The industry moniker is “Do not take on an empty stomach” because there are a lot of extra ingredients in pill-form supplements that your body doesn’t know how to deal with. Our tenet? We offer only active ingredients—no fillers, binders, flow agents of any kind. Please consume any time of day—empty stomach or not.
Many companies try to differentiate themselves by including high doses of certain ingredients that have no or questionable research to support these amounts. The industry will often mega dose on water soluble and inexpensive vitamins such as those in the B family. Here is what the Mayo Clinic thinks of RDA and mega doses: MAYO CLINIC MEGADOSES. Our tenet? We offer only the Recommended Daily Allowance in our multivitamin line. The only notable variations in our ingredient amounts are based on quality, peer-reviewed clinical studies that support increased dosing of specific nutrients.
Most people don’t remember to take their vitamins every day. Is this a problem? The medical industry certainly believes compliance is important and we do, too. It’s estimated that only 45% to 55% of people stay regular with their supplements. There are a number of reasons people don’t remember to take their supplements every day but it really boils down to two things. First, we tend to place bottles in out of the way places—out of sight, out of mind. The second reason is that swallowing vitamins is not a great experience to begin with. We started Tespo to eliminate these two barriers. Our tenet? We designed a dispenser and vitamin pod that easily fits on the counter to serve as a friendly daily reminder to take your supplement. It’s fun to use, and our vitamins are easy to take. Get compliant and you may be surprised by the results.
We were amazed to learn from our advisory team that specific vitamin ingredients come in a variety of forms. The shocking news is that the body can’t actually absorb some of these forms of ingredients. They are used simply as cheap window dressing for the product label. For example, vitamin E comes in two forms. The “D” form, which is natural and the “L” Form which is synthetic. The “L” form is used to “water-down” the more expensive, more bioactive “D” form. Take a look at your vitamin label and you may be surprised to find a different, less bio-available or inactive form of the ingredient.
