Tips for Fitness Success from Tespo Rep, Bec

Tespo: What are the three most important things someone can do to improve their fitness?

Bec: 1. Do something everyday.

2. Change it up, don’t get stuck in a fitness routine, you need to keep your body guessing e.g. boxing one day, weight training the next, HIIT session (high intensity interval training) the following day. Variety is key!

3. Make sure your nutrition matches your workouts. By this I mean make sure you are eating the correct foods and supplements for your body to recover as efficiently as possible. If you are working your body to the bone and spending too much time calorie counting without the correct refueling, the workouts become a little pointless.

Tespo: Starting or re-starting a fitness routine is one of the hardest things to do. If someone is just getting started, what do you tell him or her to do, to set them up for success and so they don’t get discouraged?

Bec: I always pre-warn my new clients that the first 2-3 weeks are going to be tough as your body adapts. Your body will have a freak out, you will be super sore and tired and it can be hard to see the positives. Sticking through this period of time and trying to keep your eyes on the prize is so important. As soon as it’s over and your body adapts to the new routine you start feeling and seeing all the positives and it becomes addictive. It’s almost like someone flicks a switch with your body and BOOM you are feeling on top of the world.

Tespo: You mention the importance of nutrition. What does the perfect healthy breakfast look like to you?

Bec: I’m one of those crazy people that no matter how late I’m running, I make sure I eat a good breakfast. If I don’t my entire day is thrown off and I hate the feeling of trying to play catch up. My typical brekky is scrambled egg whites with veggies, nutritional yeast (Ahhh that stuff is the bomb!). So if I were to break it down:

1/2 cup of egg whites

3 sliced mushrooms

Handful of spinach

Lots of pepper

A nice sprinkling of nutritional yeast

This probably takes all of 5 minutes to make, but is an absolute savior and sets my days off to a nice tone.
